SUMMARY:NJLTAP – Local Road Safety Plans (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:Course Description:\nThis course will introduce how to improve safety by developing and implementing an action plan. We will discuss local road safety plans\, an FHWA proven safety countermeasure local agencies can use to identify at-risk locations on their roadways and deploy cost-effective safety solutions. Participants learn how to implement safety improvements targeted at areas that have a history of crashes or exhibit conditions associated with high-crash areas. Participants will learn the steps to develop and implement a Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) for their community. DESCRIPTION:Course Description:\nThis course reviews the basic regulations and engineering guidelines for the installation of pavement markings and properly establishing and posting regulatory\, warning\, and guide signs. It presents examples of improper signing so participants can better understand the basic concepts and principles associated with signs and supports\, along with sign management techniques. (Note: The course does not cover work zone or temporary traffic control signing). \nLearning Objectives: \n\nIdentify the standards/guidelines for the installation of pavement markings\nUnderstand the basic guidelines for sign usage\, and the method of installation\, in accordance with the MUTCD\nAppropriately use the reasons or warrants for proper sign selection\n\nIntended Audience:\nIndividuals who are making decisions regarding what signs to install and where\, and those actually installing the signs\, including: engineers\, public works employees\, and street superintendents.
